Blurb

Blighted by invasion, Britain -like most of the world - lies under the thumb of an alien race. Is one man enough to tip the balance in favour of the rebellion? Thrown into the fight by circumstance and with an unexpected ally.... will he be able to do all that is demanded of him and emerge intact? Starships loom in orbit and a few free fighters wage a desperate struggle to free Earth from the clutches of an Alien empire.

Chapter 1

And in the darkest hour a light shall shine forth....

“We’re under attack! For gods’ sake send help! Those ships… they’re huge….!” A pilot screams across his communications channel as he throws his shuttle into an emergency manoeuvre, the ESA shuttle pulls away from Mars as the pilot pushes the fusion engine to full power. The plume of fire from the shuttles’ engine kicks it out of the red planets’ orbit, throwing the shuttle on a trajectory towards Earth.

Behind the escaping ESA shuttle, a fleet of massive starships fashioned like blue whales move into orbit over Mars. The fledgling colony near the edge of the polar ice cap squats buried deep under the sands of Mars, maximising the protection of the soil against solar radiation. A few of the settlers are outside the colony, working on projects in their thick protective spacesuits, they look up as an alert sounds across their communication network, urging them to get back inside.

They barely have time to register the message before an energy weapon slams into the colony and burns its’ way along the length of the colony, puncturing every dome and destroying the entire colony in a few seconds. A few of the settlers outside run for the nearby rovers, only to be destroyed by energy fire from far above.

Their deed done, the alien ships swat the few satellites serving the colony with energy weapons before pulling away from the dead planet and heading for earth.

The lunar colonies, more prosperous due to their proximity to earth, scramble to evacuate as the warning of the threat approaching reaches them, a garbled, barely audible warning from the escaping shuttle. The colonies meteorite defence lasers power up as the population scrambles to shelters, the governors already blasting off for Earth aboard the shuttles that service the colonies and transport their minerals back to Earth, leaving their populations to face whatever happens alone.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, the shuttles don’t make it back to Earth before more alien ships blaze into existence around the Earth and moon. The alien Whales appear as quickly as they had around Mars, energy weapons reach out and vapourise one of the colonies on the moon before the other moons’ asteroid defences can be retargetted and start firing.

High energy lasers blaze against the alien ships, reaching out with deadly power to carve into the alien ships. Only to fade out as they strike the energy fields protecting the ships. The moons’ dark side missile batteries - intended to eliminate incoming threats such as rogue comets or asteroids approaching earth - manages to fire off a few of its’ missiles, one successfully catching a Whale as it approaches within range. Destroying the Whale in a thermonuclear fireball before another Whale obliterates the facility.

As the last lunar colony dies, a single shuttle suicides into one of the whales, claiming a second Whale. The rest of the shuttles are eliminated before they can reach their destination. A couple more of the starships die as the David class satellites defending the Earth empty their missiles into the whales’ path from the far side of the planet. Several of the missiles manage to get within range and explode, destroying several more whales, a couple are sent into death spirals in the earth’s atmosphere. Their hulls terminally breached.

The remaining Whales descend upon the Earth with fury. Cities burn and populations dies as the aliens claim the Earth as their own.

The year is now 2062, it is the fifteenth year of the occupation that began that fateful day.

mray2174: I did like this story. I would totally recommend it to a friend, but it didn't seem like a book. Your writing style reminded me of a fan fiction writer, always adding in tiny details and making things like "Oh, my name is [name that no one would ever name a child] and here is my life story. Oh, d...

ranaenana: Wonderful plot, great dystopian society, Orwellian, Huxley type. I like the different points of view, I would like a little more information on the characters, but I am only half way through. I am devouring it!!

Pablo Rojas: Love the story, at the end it is a western story, simple, yet giving hints and pieces of the situation that is happening all over ravencroft´s universe. easy to read and always keeping with the main stream story I want to keep reading about, Olafson´s adventures.

Jordano Quaglia: I was taken to the future, to the shock of worlds among the people in the underground versus the mutants. The characters are well defined and rich in details, as I felt that I empathized well with them and envied their adventures while being scared by their predicament. It i a world that I would ...
