A Writing Prompt

Deafening silence. Save for the heavy breathing that boomed inside his helmet. His heavy breathing. Calm down, just calm the fuck down, he thought to himself. He still hadn’t opened his eyes since the shit went down. Micro-meteorites had hit his capsule as it hurled towards the moon. He had managed to enter a suit before the craft lost pressure. Moments later, decompression tore the capsule apart, catapulting him onward towards his destination.

Reluctantly, his eyelids opened, revealing the moon, huge against the blackness of space. A piece of debris moved past him to his left. There was nothing to grab on to. Nothing to slow him down. Traveling at 6.95 miles per second, all he could do was try to calculate how long he had before impact. Based on his last known position and current speed, allow for variance due to craft explosion...

“Shit.”

He did the math. Five times he did the math.

“Shit.”

He’ll impact the surface of the moon well before oxygen is depleted. There goes his hope of a peaceful death. It would have been so much nicer to just to drift off into sleep.

“Shit.”

The moon. It filled his vision. Growing larger with every passing breath. Closer it drew. Faster his breaths came and went. He closed his eyes. In an instant, a lifetime and memories flooded his senses. Images, sounds, and smells bombarded him. The first kiss. Senior prom. Marriage. Kids. The accident. He hadn’t noticed that he had been holding his breath during this montage of his life.

“I wish I could kiss you one last time...” he thought.

A nanosecond later, his face shield shattered, his body liquified from the impact. The vacuum of space ripping every molecule of air from his body. The cold of nothingness freezing him. Preserving him. The newly formed crater haloed around his broken form as moon dust gently settled upon him like powdered sugar.

snowview03: This is the first book I have read on this app and I loved it! When I read the title I thought about the hunger games, but this novel is so much more. Some book have a comparison between other books that fallow like premises so i will do my own: Arena has the compellingly emotional stresses and t...

Kashaf Azmat: The concept is excellent everything is well defined that you can picture the whole scenario which makes you feel connected to the plot and this is the thing that catches my eye and this what i am looking for in every novel.Keep it up

PaulSenkel: If you like Arthur C. Clarke's Odyssey, especially The Final Odyssey, then you will probably also enjoy this book. I definitely did.It does, however, address a more adolescent public than the above-mentioned book.I enjoyed the story and finished it in a few days. The overall situation on earth an...

Sara Grover: When I first started reading, it was a bit slow; though only because it was so information intense and fast-paced in trying to describe how this complex galactic corporation/government like entity controls known space. I would suggest maybe adding a preface to better educate the reader to help av...

CookieMonster911: The story overall was an adventure that is appealing to any age. The way the characters develop adds a more human characteristic to the novel. The writing style itself is amazing because you can learn every character's thoughts and emotions. The awkward love triangle and jerk moments adds to the ...

cassandrab: Delightful SciFi (for a change)! I am not a SciFi fan: mostly the genre is far too dystopic for me. This book (written by a high-school friend) is, on the other hand, generally upbeat. Yes, Earth's future is threatened. But Earth has a chance to plan a response. And (spoiler alert) ultimately win...

Ali Albazaz: I started reading "Caged" few hours ago and I'm on chapter 7 now. Caged is definitely one of the most addictive stories I've ever read. Thank you so much for writing this novel.

Rachel Mc Donald: This was an awesome book a real page turner couldn't put it down . The characters all had a good back story . I love these kind of books and would read it if you decided to write a follow up book . Excellent work

Deleted User: It was a great hook. I do not like reading scifi because they end up being like all the rest but this one kept me wanting more.

Marimar Amieva: I just can't believe the story! I absolutely loved it, all of it. The characters and their chemistry between them, and the fact that they are relatable. The story also has some sick plot twists, which I never saw coming. I loved the fact that it is an adorable love story but has its mystery touc...

Schaelz: I was intrigued from the second I started reading, and it kept my interest the whole way through. Chelsea has a way with words that will enchant you until the very end. She is very poetic with the way she mixes genres and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The main character is also very relat...

Ding Fernando: very nice read.so realistic you can hardly put it down,i really like the character so human despite posessing immortality and eternal youth.though i would prefer a better ending..i still love this novel and i am recommending it to all sci fi fans to give it a try .you will love it too!!

Deleted User: I loved this story. It was so great that I did not expect it to be this awesome. I swear to you this deserves more than just 5 stars. Beyond amazing.
