Alright my name was quite hard to pronounce, but looking at the man I practically grew up with, I knew he was doing it on purpose.
“It’s hill-are-ghee-a or hill-are-e-ah, hell I’ll even accept Ill-are-ghee-a, but not -jia, I don’t get why you make me sound like a broken record,” standing in jeans and a fluffy green top, he looked really warm and huggable, his blonde hair was tussled and his green eyes were shining with amusement.
A clear sign he was doing this on purpose.
And it wasn’t like he or anyone else for that matter actually used my real name, I had various nicknames, most which he came up with to begin with.
“I was only joking Hill, no need to be so angry,”
I grunted in response as he walked up and turned my attention back to the spoon before he called my name, I placed it in my mouth sighing at the warm liquid, it was good.
“I don’t understand why you just didn’t come down to dinner like everyone else,” I could almost imagine what his face looked like, a wrinkle in his forehead as his eyebrows knotted in confusion. I waved a hand and stirred the pot where there was currently soup being made.
Which of course I was taste-testing.
“I don’t do dinners, you know me,” plus I had just gotten home from a two day journey, the last thing I wanted was interrogation.
“Instead you share your saliva in the soup for tomorrow,”
I rolled my eyes, “I used a different spoon,” I said holding up my spoon, like I would double dip in something everyone has to-hey that’s not a bad idea, that means I get the soup all to myself.
Cameron laughed flicking my hand as I tried taking another spoon, well I used another spoon to place some on my soup, it was a messy ordeal. But worth it.
“When did you arrive?”
Ah, I knew he was dying to find out, they always were.
“Two,” I replied, and I had gone straight to my room that had been untouched for the three months I was gone and had a long sleep, and then had a very long shower under hot water.
“Well...how was it?”
The shower? Well it was warm.
I turned to look at him while I placed another mouthful of whatever soup this was in my mouth, absolutely delicious. I raised an eyebrow at him, we do not kill and tell, he should know that by now.
“You were just gone longer than I thought,” he shrugged and I frowned, “Did baby boy miss me?”
He rolled his eyes and I licked the spoon placing it in the sink, there were dirty dishes in it so I wasn’t going to feel guilty.
“I’ll show you come on,”
I walked around the kitchen corner and cut through to the stairs, Cameron on my heels, what we did, well it was complicated.
We enforced laws, we made sure a pack ran smoothly, and by packs it was werewolves. And if something didn’t go smoothly, we sorted it out, kill or make allies, we did it all.
Of course I just preferred breaking someone’s neck in half, less paperwork. And rogues were my favourite toy to play with, they were just too funny and underestimated females way too much.
And it was known everyone hated enforcers, I mean we were like the police, authority that everyone hated, especially Alpha’s.
I opened the door to my room, there was still that dusty inhabited smell that was slowly dying out since I had opened the windows as soon as I arrived, except now the cold air was inside. I went straight to the computer logging on and waiting for the camera to load.
“What did you do?”
“Just wait,” I said as he pulled the other computer chair and straddled it backwards leaning on the head rest. I quickly typed in a code and a red dot was flashing on our screen and he stared at it.
“What is that-wait, did that just move?”
I smiled leaning back, “What is that Hill?”
I stretched my feet crossing them at the ankles, “That is, or I should said are,” I said as I zoomed out and more dots appeared, “our rogues,”
He stared at me blankly, “I placed tracking devices on some I met on the way home, that’s why I took so long, nasty animals to place a device on,” and I had a wound that was still healing to prove it.
“Makes my job easier,” it was like a GPS, not I knew where they were at all times, so when they were meant to come to the werewolf court denying they were somewhere else when the attack on the Heventhor pack happened, I had proof otherwise.
And of course, I was the one always sent to eliminate rogues that have been rumoured at making a rogue pack, and this made my job way easier.
Plus I was bored.
“Did you tell the committee?” he asked.
Did he forget we were the committee, sure there were heads but we still were, “Maybe,”
He gave me a stern look and I waved it off, I had told the elder, and that’s all who I needed to tell.
“Alright get some sleep, he wants to speak to you tomorrow morning,” with that Cameron got up and left and I frowned.
There was two reasons, he, the elder of the elders wanted to speak to me, either I was in trouble for telling the last Alpha I dealt with to shove his rank up his arse, or it was a new job.
“Ah, Ilargia, welcome,” I nodded as the old man stood up at his desk, he may be nearing a century but he was still stronger than half of the pathetic excuse of an enforcer in this house.
His hair was completely grey, but he still maintained it in a neat cut.
“I have a job for you,” aha, so I wasn’t getting in trouble for the last Alpha, it wasn’t my fault, if he thought he could make me do things just because he had a title, he was wrong, he may have a title but I had a fist, covered in a glove made of silver lacing at the top.
I walked over to his table my hands automatically grabbing the paper weight in my hand, I just did. I turned it around, “It’s new,” I said, the last one he had was not purple and white.
“Ah, the only one who notices,” he sat back down throwing a file on the desk, a very large file and I could see some dust on it. An old case, re-opened.
I shifted the weight in my hands feeling comfort from the heavy, cold and if used, lethal weapon in my hands, who knew a paper weight could potentially kill you, one throw at your head and you were a goner.
“I have a job for you,”
He pushed the folder towards me and I turned it around and opened it.
“They are hosting a large party, one that has raised suspicion in plotting to overthrow neighbouring packs,”
I flicked through the pages, they being one of the biggest packs, there were a few big packs, three to be precise.
The Cavern pack was complicated, their current Alpha has to take over from a young age which meant he had a good grip and foundation, but he still made immature decisions even if he was nearly his late twenties now.
A lack of Luna would be why. Every wolf had a soul mate, but an Alpha’s soul mate would be the most important, while an Alpha liked to show only dominance and cruelty to the pack, to keep them in line, the Luna did the opposite.
It was like a mother and father, with both working in harmony, it felt like home, or a father and father, and a mother and mother, no hate.
“What do you want me to do?” I asked confused, was he sending me to be a spy?
He smiled and I groaned, yes he was, of course it wouldn’t really by spying because they would know I was going, which meant cue hostility.
“I want you to keep an eye on it, makes sure nothing is being planned, and report to me. And if something breaks out, with three packs attending there will be tensions, I want you to have control over this,”
I bit my lip, was I being de-promoted, I don’t do baby sitting, especially three fully grown men.
“And also try being a bit more respectful to the Alphas’s, the last one complained,”
I smirked, “Did I hurt his baby feelings?”
The elder, George, shook his head at me, “behave,” and threw something at me.
I put down the paper weight and caught the other one, his old one, and smiled, “For you,”
“Thanks George,” I grabbed the file with the other hand and winked before leaving. Thanks to George, I was starting to get a rather big collection in my room of paper-weights, and I didn’t regret them one bit.
I looked up as a plate was placed in front of me with two sandwiches, neatly cut in half to made a triangle. I looked up smiling at Cameron.
“You can read your god damn file later, if your father knew you were losing weight faster than a rabbit on a treadmill he would kill me,”
I rolled my eyes but grabbed half the sandwich anyways, I was hungry and this file was rather big, and boring, but it had to be read nevertheless.
I bit into the cheese and tomato sandwich, the combination was pure heaven no matter how unappetizing it sounded.
“What’s the new job?”
I passed him the front page and he read it out loud.
“The Cavern,” he grimaced, “Be careful with their Alpha,” I waved a hand, unmated Alpha’s weren’t new to me.
“I’m serious Hill, he’s not the nicest towards females,”
I have heard the rumours about a womazinig jerk, and I knew very well how to handle them, Cameron did not need to sugar coat it to me.
“I know, and I’m not the nicest enforcer either,”
I flicked to the next page, and thankfully the last page, it was a list of all the names that were attending, a very long list with tiny font, there was a lot of people. I flicked it away carelessly back into the folder, I could read that later.
“So when are you leaving?” he grabbed the other half of the sandwich and I let him.
“Tonight,” the faster I got this baby sitting gig over with, the faster I could get some real action.

genlynne2379: I read the other review of this book and I must say that I disagree with it wholeheartedly. They should have different names a...
