I was sexually abused as a child and this is my story. I had kept the secrets and memories of my abuse hidden within me for so long that my silence became a prison. Childhood abuse casts a long shadow over the lives of the abused. I am a survivor of the Shadowlands, and today I'm finally free. I have begun the healing process. All the energy I had consumed keeping the secrets locked within me is now available to help myself heal. For me, healing is nothing more than coming to terms with my past and understanding how my experiences helped to shape the person I have become. Childhood’s forge of experience shaped my life one event at a time. Each of my abusers took their turn as the blacksmith. They assaulted my body and mind with their will, each strike shaped and twisted me into new ways and directions. I resisted, to the best of my ability. I refused to break, and I would not yield. Nevertheless, I did bend and change. I would never be the same again. Healing will be a long and sometimes difficult road to journey, but I would rather walk this path with friends in the sunshine than to travel alone in the darkness.

Prologue

“If you wish to have a life worth reading about you must first live a life worth writing about.” – Charles H. Randall

I was sexually abused as a child. I started writing this book by accident. One day over a cup of coffee, I told a friend. The words slipped out of my mouth before I could catch them. The secret, which I had hidden within myself for fifty years, was no longer a secret. As I broke down in tears, my friend became the first person to know.

The simple sharing of a secret unleashed a flood of emotions and memories. The experience was almost overwhelming and to restore order to the chaos of recollection; I started a journal which evolved into the story you are now reading.

I had kept the secrets and memories of my abuse hidden within me for so long that my silence became a prison. Childhood abuse casts a long shadow over the lives of the abused.

I am a survivor of the Shadowlands, and today I’m finally free.

William Elliott Kern: Hey Lauren, enjoyed reading your book. Your story content and plot blend beautifully, with a few exceptions. think about describing your Characters, their surroundings, the location surroundings and such. But don't fret.........your work is really great and a few changes are normal. Keep writ...

Mary Abigail: I have always been a serious reader but reading romance has always been an outlet for me to be happy and this, makes me happy. It's entertaining with just enough drama and maybe a bit more - I do need more.

Keith: UNSCRIPTED is an excellent, well-told story of a woman who tries to find herself after the painful break-up of her marriage. She does so,intriguingly, by going to Cambodia to help supervise the first free election after the brutal reign of Pol Pot and The Killing Fields. I was drawn to this story...

Radecki: This is one of the freshest stories I've read in a while. Author (Thetawave) has accomplished that rare feat of creating something original. If I had to label his writing style I would call it "baroque LSD".

ElusiveBadwolf: I'm so disappointed that i'm already at the end because i love this book so much! I hope the second will come fast and i enjoyed it very much! You are a very good writer and i hope it will help you to get what you want to be!

Nida Bhounr: the novel was a very typical and clichéd plot boy meets girls , impregnates her and leaves her because of prior commitments then they meet up again. but nonetheless it was very nicely written. it was very typical but i liked it.

sujitha nair: What's so distinct about this story was that it could easily be real.Praveena can be your classmate, neighbor or that girl you saw at the coffee shop today. The important decisions she makes and the dilemmas she faces, remind us of our own twisted lives.

Lydia Sherrer: I first read The Speaker almost a decade ago when I first discovered author Sandra Leigh. I loved it then, and I still love it now. It is a simple, easy read, yet deep in meaning and rich in storyline. I do not know what kind of research or prior knowledge Leigh has of First Nation tribes, but sh...

Tina Hacker: Lindsey Martin=Bowen blends humor with satiric takes on modern life. Her characters are introduced seamlessly and tell the reader their stories--if we can read them between laughs! I hesitate to write exactly what she parodies but anyone reading her book will know in a minute. Just think large-...

Silver: Its a very good story you have here. Felicity´s ability is interesting and original, I love it. The setting of a hostpital was a good choice, especially since we get the scene with the other interns, gives it a very real feel. There wasnt much plot for me to rate, so I´ll update as the story prog...

Colin Milroy: To begin, I don't think that the first review of this story was fair at all. Based on the popularity of this story, I would say the one-star review hasn't done much harm, but I still felt the need to address it. Now I will do my best to be constructive.I liked the concept of this story. I found i...
