Chapter 1

“Jeiklee!”

Jeiklee stopped pedalling, turning to look at whoever called his name.

“Oh- hi Spirit.” He rubbed his nose awkwardly. “How are you?”

“You’re still finding this hard to believe, aren’t you?” she said, pouting.

Jeiklee scowled at her. “What, you think I should be overjoyed?”

Spirit glared at him through pearly grey eyes, startling against her brown skin. “Actually, I do. You have a gift- you’re the same as me.”

“I’m nothing like you!” Jeiklee’s temper snapped. “You’re a witch!”

Spirit kissed her teeth and folded her arms. “And you are?”

“Normal!” spat Jeiklee. “A normal eighteen year old guy-”

“You know, when I met you, I didn’t think you was the type of guy to stay in denial for longer than a week.”

Jeiklee glared at her, getting back on his bike. “Did you call me just to get under my skin, Spirit? ’Cause if you did-”

“Jeiklee, I only called you because I want to help you.”

“Help?!”

“I’ve been around magic all my life, and you- well…”

“I was adopted,” Jeiklee said angrily. “For the greater good!”

“Yeah, that’s what your fake parents told you.”

“It’s true!”

“They blackmailed your real parents!” Spirit said angrily. “They said they’d expose them if they didn’t let them keep you! And they didn’t even stop to think what you were! They was just desperate for a baby-”

“Stop! Stop it right now!” Jeiklee said angrily, but she ignored him.

“But at least your parents made sure the fake ones named you Jeiklee-”

“Spirit, stop!”

“They want to meet you so badly, and you’re being so horrid!”

Jeiklee lifted his chin defiantly at that. “I didn’t say a word.”

“Exactly!”

“Spirit, leave me alone!” he said frustratedly. “I can’t believe you turned my world upside down- tricked me!”

“I didn’t trick you.” Spirit was now calm again. “I just didn’t tell you what I was- you would never have spoken to me.”

“Well, that’s your time. Because I’m not speaking to you again, ever!”

“Jeiklee!”

He ignored her, scrambling on his bike. As he pedalled away Spirit stared after him, then she called “Nice wheels!”

Jeiklee glanced down- his wheels were glowing!

“Aaargh!!”

CRASH!!

Spirit burst out laughing as she jogged towards him, sprawled on the concrete pavement.

“Need a hand?”

“Get away from me!”

Spirit stepped back, startled. “Jeiklee, it’s ok!”

“No it’s not- please, just leave me alone. Stop doing magic on me!”

“But Jeiklee, I didn’t- that was you!”

“Leave me alone!”

Brian Shaber: I very much enjoyed this. I was a fun read, the characters and story expanding immensely as it went (almost to the point of bewildering me). The characters, settings, and scenes were vivid. The world-building (though, as I said, bewildering after a while) was most impressive. The grammar erro...

abdiabdullahi: i liked it a lot you have so much room for improvement i am not saying i have great knowledge of writing i know if you put in more effort you could reach new levels and i kinda felt like you were rushing things and we did not get to see the better part of oriens growing up

Supercow97: This was a very well written book and I found no grammatical errors while reading. The author's writing style was good and it made me want to keep reading. At times I was confused and I had to reread a certain section of the book a few times because I didn't know what the author was talking about...

Aki Trilee: This is one of the best books I've ever read. The author tells a story about a girl who goes through so much stress but able to find true love. Beautifully written, very emotional and romantic. I ended up staying up until three in the morning so I could keep reading. FLAWLESS!

GWritesNovels : This book was highly enjoyable! The story was beautiful and I loved every moment of it. Allison and Nicole felt very real and three-dimensional, and their relationship was beautiful. I would definitely read it again, and these characters will stay with me for a long time.

William Elliott Kern: Long story, the plot uncovered midway through the story. From beginning, the story was fast moving. Then dragged on for quite some time. The Author was good in describing her characters, their clothing, etc. but a lot of that disclosure distracted from the story moving fast. Not withstanding, the...

Ro-Ange Olson: This is such a different romance story. I loved it. The book was very long and could be split into 2-3 books in my opinion, but I'd hate to have to wait to read the next part too.
